Hon’ble Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR
Dr. T. Mohapatra visits ICAR-DFR Farm, Pune.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, visited research farm of ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, located at Hadapsar, Pune at 6.30 pm on 29th April, 2017 on way to NRC Pomegranate, Solapur

Dr. K.V. Prasad, Director, ICAR-DFR presented an overview of the progress at ICAR-DFR. Director, ICAR-DFR explained the whole master plan of ICAR-DFR to DG, ICAR. He interacted with all the scientists of ICAR-DFR. He went round research farm recently acquired by ICAR-DFR from MPKV. He advised to test the river water passing through ICAR-DFR land before using for irrigation. He suggested to include water filtration/treatment plant in the master plan. He suggested to cover the research farm by green fencing. He also advised to renovate the old structures located at farm and use for official purpose

He also advised to take picture of all the developments of ICAR-DFR including regional center before and after the development that would be useful for making institute profile documents in future.

He encouraged all the scientists to fulfill the action points discussed during his previous visit on 21st October 2016. He was accompanied by Dr. R. K. Pal, Director, NRCP, Solapur, Dr. S. D. Sawant, Director, NRCG, Pune.

He has enquired about the financial position of ICAR-DFR and plan provisions made in the next three years.


Shri. S. K. Singh, Hon’ble Additional Secretary (DARE) & Financial Advisor (ICAR) visits ICAR-DFR, Research Farm, Pune.

Shri. Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor (DARE/ICAR) visited ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune on 13th April, 2017.

Dr K. V. Prasad, Director, ICAR-DFR briefed about the recent initiatives taken by the institute to operationalize the ICAR-DFR farm at Hadapsar. He explained hon’ble Finance Advisor about the draft master plan.

He went round research farm of ICAR-DFR located at Hadapsar, Pune. He expressed his satisfaction on the piece of land acquired by ICAR-DFR. Dr. S. D. Sawant, Director, NRCG and Dr. V. Mahajan, Director, DOGR, Rajgurunagar accompanied him.


Padma Shri Dr. K L Chadha, Former DDG (Hort. Science), ICAR visited ICAR-DFR

The ICAR-DFR felt privileged on the maiden visit of Padma Shri Dr. K L Chadha, former DDG (Hort. Science), ICAR to ICAR-DFR, Pune on 07th April 2017. On this occasion he first visited the research farm of ICAR-DFR located at Hadapsar. He expressed his satisfaction on the piece of land acquired by ICAR-DFR

Dr, K.V. Prasad, Director, DFR presented an overview of the progress at ICAR-DFR. Dr. K. L. Chadha and Dr. S.D. Sawant, Director, NRCG participated in tree plantation at Hadapsar farm of ICAR-DFR.

He shared his experience on how to create new institutions. He emphasized to create separate blocks for ornamentals like flowering trees, avenue trees, climbers, shrubs, edging plants, annuals, bulbs crops etc.

He interacted with the Scientists and discussed about the research work carried out by them and gave valuable suggestions and inputs. He suggested to undertake in depth research in ornamental breeding, Post-harvest Technology of flowers, integrated insect-pest and disease management and other areas for bringing excellence in flower production in the country.

He released second issue of ICAR-DFR Flori news. He appreciated the progress of various works undertaken at ICAR-DFR.


Hon’ble Director General ICAR Visits DFR

Secretary Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research Dr Triolohan Mohapatra visited three research institutions and two regional stations of Indian Council of Agricultural Research on 21st October 2016 to review the work done. At the Directorate of Floricultural Research (DFR) he launched the inaugural issue of the Flori News the official news letter of ICAR-DFR and also unveiled the Wall Magazine -Petals in English and Pankhudi in Hindi. He interacted with all the scientists and discussed in depth the research accomplishments of the scientists and offerred valuable suggestions for further improvement. He inaugurated the refurbished glasshouse and reviewed the experiments conducted in it. He took part in the sawaach bharat pakhwada and presented swaach kits.

While speaking on the occasion he stressed up on the need to develop simple diagnostic tools to identify the major biotic threats like bacterial, viral and phytoplasmal diseases. He called upon the scientists to develop technologies of immediate need of the farmers while understanding the basics. Work on pre breeding, biomolecule profiling, vertical farming, biocontrol of insects, nematodes and viral diseases are some of the areas that need to be focused, he advised.

He opined that Floriculture has a greater potential to double the farm income that addresses the aspirations of the Government.


Hon’ble Deputy Director General ICAR Visits DFR


Hon’ble Secretary DARE and Director General, ICAR

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Hon’ble Secretary DARE & Director General of ICAR visited ICAR – DFR on 8th December, 2015 and interacted with the scientific and administrative staff. During his visit Hon’ble DG had reviewed the research projects, infrastructure development and constraints faced. He appreciated the efforts of the administration and scientists in overcoming the impediments in making the ICAR – DFR functional at its new location, Pune.

RAC Members

The Research Advisory Committee comprising of Dr. V. A. Parthasarathy as the Chairman and Dr. T. Janakiram, Dr. Deshpande, Dr. T. M. Rao, Mr. Jaffer Naqvi visited ICAR – DFR on 26th March, 2016. The members visited the research farms located at Shivajinagar and Hadapsar and operationalised the tractor and the implements that were purchased during March 2016.

Hon’ble Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science)

Dr. N. K. Krishna kumar, Hon’ble DDG ICAR visited ICAR-DFR along with Dr. Vikramaditya Pandey, Principle Scientist Horticultural Science Division of ICAR on 20th November 2015. During his visit he reviewed the infrastructure available, research facilities at the farm and also the research projects that are in operation at ICAR – DFR. He had offered valuable suggestions to improve the functioning of ICAR – DFR.

Hon’ble, Vice- Chancellor, MPKV, Rahuri

Dr K P Vishwanatha, Vice- Chancellor, MPKV, Rahuri visited ICAR-DFR and interacted with the scientific and administrative staff. During his visit he overviewd the status of DFR and facilities provided by the MPKV Rahuri for establishment of ICAR-DFR at Pune.

Directors of ICAR institutes

Directors of four ICAR institutions namely Dr. S. K. Sharma, Director, CIAH, Bikaner, Dr. M.S. Ladaniya , Director, CCRI, Nagpur, Dr. Vishal Nath, Director, NRC litchi, Muzaffarpur and Dr. C. K. Narayana, Director, IIHR, Bengaluru visited ICAR – DFR on 21st November 2015 and appreciated the efforts made by team DFR in creating required infrastructure after relocating to Pune.

Dr. N. K. Dadlani and Dr. (Mrs) Malavika Dadlani

Dr. N. K. Dadlani, Vice President, Asia Pacific Seed Association, Dr. Mrs. Malavika Dadlani former Joint Director (Res), IARI visited ICAR – DFR on 23rd November 2015 and offered valuable suggestions to take the research agenda of ICAR – DFR forward.


DDG (HS) Visits the Regional Station Land

Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar, DDG(HS) visited the land identified for the establishment of ICAR-DFR Regional Station at Vemagiri villege, Kadiyam Mandal of Andhra Pradesh and interacted with the Farmers.


Campus Development

The Government of Maharashtra has transferred 75 ac of land for the establishment of ICAR-DFR in two land parcels. 25 ac of land at Shivajinagar and 50 ac of land at Hadapsar. Final land transfer on the name of ICAR for Hadapsar land was obtained from 3 out of 4 villages in February 2016.

The land at Hadapsar was cleared of undergrowth and ploughed and leveled. Also 5.00 acres of land at Shivajinagar campus has been earmarked for the establishment of a new ICAR-ATARI.
