Technologies Developed

  • Improved chrysanthemum cultivars: for pot culture, early flowering, no-pinch and no-stake type, cut sprays and late bloomers

  • Potting medium for chrysanthemum: Cocopeat + Sand + FYM + Vermicompost (2:1:0.5:0.5) and Cocopeat + Sand + FYM + Enriched media compost (2:1:0.5:0.5)

  • Staggered plantation: Identified gladiolus cultivars for November, December and January planting to extend the blooming

  • Gladiolus cultivars for longer vase life of 12-14 days: Flevo Souvenir, Argentina, Plum Tart, Amsterdam, Priscilla, Verona, Pink Friendship, White Prosperity and Big Time Supreme

  • Drying methods for flowers: Inverted hang drying method for Helichrysum, Acroclinum and Statice; Hot air drying and microwave oven drying with silica gel embedding for gaillardia and annual chrysanthemum; Wet drying (pre-treatment of ethanol and poly ethylene glycol as humectants) for marigold var. Serakal and Celosia were found to be ideal.
